22 set Marble, Michelangelo's love
“I just took out of the marble stone everything that wasn’t David!”
This was the answer of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, or simply Michelangelo (1475-1564) to Leonardo da Vinci in 1503, after being questioned about the perfection of the most famous sculpture in the world.
Abandoned for nearly four decades at the back of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, there lay a massive block of white marble, weighing over five tons. After years of carving the stone, several artists abandoned the project, but the young Michelangelo, then 26, in just two years transformed the block into the 5,17-meter-tall statue, which today hangs in the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.

Just as when we fall in love, Michelangelo completely changed when it came to sculpture. He became absolutely ecstatic about his creations when he began a work, to the point of barely sleeping, never changing his clothes, and rarely eating. His passion was marble sculpture.
The artist went directly to the white marble quarries of Carrara to select the blocks from which he would carve his most famous works of art, such as the Pietà, which is housed in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. In 1517, for example, he climbed Monte Altissimo in Tuscany to mine the white marble found there.
The seemingly static figure acquires full movement, one of the hallmarks of the Renaissance master's style. Furthermore, the figures' expressions reflect their feelings.
Strength. Beauty. Resistance. Love. Passion. Exclusivity. Imposing.
All these words describe Michelangelo's centuries-old sculptures.

And also the hard marble, Michelangelo Prime, Zucchi.
For over 500 years, the world has been enchanted by the works of this Italian artist. There's no doubt that the marble that bears his name is the perfect choice for your project to echo eternally.
